LOOM Ways and Means

I have taken on new responsibilities as the Chairman f the LOOM Ways & Means Committee. I am also working with Roberta, the WOTM Ways & Means Chair. The Ways & Means was established to come up with solutions to our ongoing financial difficulties. The goal is to create new and or better income streams for our lodge. In order to do this, we are asking for your help, this goes hand in hand with our save the lodge campaign. There are four main areas we are concentrating on, a volunteer drive, a membership drive, refurbishing our facility, and an ongoing effort to keep the schedule full of money making events, whether it is dinner, bands on weekends or camp outs, all while making our facility available to rent for weddings, birthday parties, and the like. Even though there are members, that put in a lot of effort for the good of the order, it is a relative small group and we cannot do it all. We need volunteers, lots of volunteers. We have work details that we need volunteers for, such tasks as a tree trimming, yard, general maintenance, cleaning up after an event like a picnic, or camp out, or getting ready for an event. It would be great to see all of you talented cooks pick a Friday or Saturday evening, to prepare your favorite meal for 40 to 50 people once a year. All these events produce income for the lodge, to pay our bills, and to go to the overall maintenance for our facility.

If you are tradesman, we will need help for restoring our facility, carpenters, roofers, plumbers, electricians, masons, painters, tile setters, and all construction trade people. We are working on donations for materials, hoping we can put together the labor. All the facility repairs are going to be scheduled to accommodate beter events for more revenue streams. We will soon have sign up sheets behind the bar, so you can give us your contact information.

The membership drive is also very important. We need new blood and younger blood, to carry on our traditions. There is no better time than now, with our tough economic times, to push Membership.

There are many people looking for alternative ideas for entertainment, such as a night out, including an affordable dinner, followed by a night enjoying a live band. What better way than to spend it than at your local moose lodge with family and friends. So talk with your neighbors, family, co-workers and friends, to let them know about the Moose. Invite them as your guest to have dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, or the next time we have a band scheduled.

Thanks for your anticipated support,
Jim Smart
